The NFL's Washington Commanders have named social media influencer Katie Feeney the team's first-ever 'Social Media Correspondent.'

Feeney's collective Instagram/TikTok audience of 7.6 million people well exceeds that of the Commanders, which sits at about 2.5 million.

"We are lucky to be joining forces as she becomes an extension of the Commanders social media team. Katie provides a youthful perspective that will reach new eyes and ears and help cultivate the next generation of fans as we enter the inaugural season of the Washington Commanders," Commanders Chief Creative & Digital Officer Will Misselbrook said in a release.

"Feeney has seen explosive growth on her social media channels, including becoming a top YouTube Shorts creator, amassing 2.5 billion views worldwide," the release states. "Her social footprint includes 2.2 million subscribers on YouTube plus 6.8 million followers on TikTok, 870,000 on Instagram and 825,000 on Snapchat."

The Commanders did not rank amongst the NFL's top 10 teams in social media performance for the 2021-22 season across any major channel, according to recent report from digital analytics firm Zoomph.

Wednesday's announcement comes on the heels of Major League Soccer (MLS) in February naming former Real Salt Lake academy player Noah Beck that league's social media ambassador.

MLS' combined Instagram/TikTok audience sits at less than 3 million, while Beck has more than 42 million followers.
